Apologetics for the Church-Pastors and Church Leaders Seminar

Schedule
8:00-8:30 a.m. — Arrival & Registration
8:30-9:30 a.m. — Session 1
9:30-9:45 a.m. — Break
9:45-10:45 a.m. — Session 2
10:45-11:00 a.m. — Break
11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. — Q&A with Mark Farnham

Sessions

Session 1—Every Believer Confident—First Peter 3:15-16 calls every believer to effectively engage unbelievers with the truth of the Christian faith. But is that feasible? Yes! The phrase “give an answer” or “make a defense” is the Greek word for apologetics. So, how do we make apologetics accessible to ordinary Christians who didn’t go to Bible college or seminary? This session shows how every Christian can effectively engage unbelievers with the gospel in their daily lives.

Session 2—How Eastern Thought Has Infiltrated the West (and the Church)—Words, such as “mindfulness,” and practices like yoga, manifesting, grounding, and using crystals have become commonplace, not only in our country but also among Christians. Many believers are unaware of the Eastern religious roots of new ideas that promise health, healing, and mental health. This session exposes the religious roots of seemingly non-religious practices and presents the Christian counterparts that bring true blessing.

Our Speaker

Mark Farnham is the Founder and Director of Apologetics for the Church. Mark has been teaching Apologetics in local churchs for almost twenty years. His study of Apologetics has opened doors to interact with all kinds of people. He is an engaging speaker who combines simple, clear explanations with gripping personal illustrations from fascinating encounters with nonbelievers of all kinds.

Mark served for seven years as a senior pastor in the very skeptical environment of New England. He understands the frustration of trying so many “Come and See” events with little apparent fruit. By training church members to confidently “Go and Tell,” apologetics strengthens the faith and witness of the entire church. His training seminars are aimed at ordinary church members who want to become prepared and confident to share their faith with anyone they meet.

Mark is the director of the Master of Arts in Christian Apologetics program at Lancaster Bible College and Capital Seminary in Lancaster, PA. Mark earned a PhD in Apologetics from Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia. He holds a Master of Theology degree in New Testament from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and a Master of Divinity degree from Calvary Baptist Seminary. He is the author of Every Believer Confident: Apologetics for the Ordinary Christian (Deep River, 2019), and coauthor of Talking About Ethics: A Conversational Approach to Moral Dilemmas (Kregel, 2021) and Talking About Worldviews: A Conversational Approach to Philosophical Questions (Kregel, forthcoming).

WINTER QUARTER

New! Adult Sunday School beginning December 1

New! Adult Evening Bible Study beginning December 4

  • Reading the Bible Together - Luke, Amos, 2 Corinthians

    Sundays 9:00-10:00am

We are a group of parents with kids of various ages - infants all the way through high school. We seek to study and encourage each other in our walk with God as individuals and parents. While our discussions focus around family issues, anyone is welcome to attend.

This Winter we will be “Reading the Bible Together” by reading and thinking through short selections of Scripture each week.  Our goal is to help each other grow in spending regular, daily time with God.  When we gather for class, we will spend time discussing what we read the previous week.  Our focus for this quarter will be Luke 1-6, Amos, and 2 Corinthians.  Join us as we journey through some very special sections of God’s Word together!

  • I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist

    Sundays 9:00-10:00am
    Beginning December 8

This engaging and thought-provoking class tackles critical questions at the intersection of faith, philosophy, and apologetics. Drawing from Norman Geisler and Frank Turek’s book I Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist, we will explore four key topics: the nature of objective truth, philosophical arguments for God’s existence, the possibility of miracles, and evidence supporting the reliability of the New Testament.

  • The Eye of the Storm

    Wednesdays 6:45-8:00pm

The book of Job doesn’t seek to be a theological treatise on suffering – it seeks to be a book about real life and the ups and downs that come in it.  There are good events.  There are great events!  And there are terribly horrible and confusing events, and in that struggle comes grief and confusion.  We wonder, “Why?”, and then wonder if we should even ask that.

As we study and discuss our was through Job, we will see that in the real confusion and pain of life there is a real God, Whom we may not always understand, but in Whose character and presence we can always trust.
